What Is Social Proof and How to Add It to Your Landing Page?

No testimonials yet? No press mentions? Here is how to build and use social proof at every stage of your SaaS, starting from zero.

Social proof is the collection of signals on your page that answer the visitor's unspoken question: "Has anyone else actually tried this and found it worth their time?" It is one of the most powerful conversion levers on a landing page — and one of the most common things indie founders skip because they feel like they do not have enough of it yet.

You almost always have more than you think. Here is how to find it, use it, and build more of it.

The types of social proof that work for SaaS

Social proof comes in several forms, each more or less appropriate depending on where you are in your product's lifecycle:

  • Testimonials: Direct quotes from real users about specific outcomes. The most persuasive type when genuine and specific.
  • Usage numbers: User counts, signup numbers, reviews processed, queries answered. Even small numbers work if they are real.
  • Logo walls: Company logos of notable customers or integrations. Effective for B2B; irrelevant for pure consumer tools.
  • Press mentions: Coverage in publications your target audience reads.
  • Directory badges: Listing badges from platforms like Launchstag or LaunchBuff that signal you have been discovered and recognised by a community.
  • Review scores: Aggregate ratings from third-party platforms like G2, Capterra, or Product Hunt.

How to gather testimonials when you are just starting

Waiting for testimonials to arrive organically takes too long. Ask for them actively and early. After your first 10 users have been using the product for two weeks, send each one a personal email — not a survey, a real email — asking two questions: what is working well, and what specifically has changed since they started using it?

The responses to the second question are your testimonials. Many of them will be quotable as-is. Ask permission to use them on your site. Almost everyone says yes.

When you do get a testimonial, push for specificity. "Really useful tool, would recommend" is weak. "Cut our weekly reporting time from 3 hours to 20 minutes" is powerful. If someone gives you the former, respond and ask: "What specifically has changed since you started using it?" You will often get the latter.

Where to place proof on the page

Social proof should appear throughout the page, not just in one dedicated testimonials section:

  1. Hero section: A brief social proof element near the CTA — "Join 1,200 founders" or a single strong quote
  2. Below the fold: After your main value prop, a full testimonials section or logo wall
  3. Pricing section: A testimonial specifically about value for money, placed directly adjacent to the pricing cards
  4. Near every CTA: A micro-proof element — "No credit card required · Trusted by 500+ teams"

The zero-testimonials problem — and how to solve it

If you have no testimonials yet, you have other options. Directory listing badges — from platforms you have been accepted to — signal that your product exists in the world and has been discovered by others. Usage numbers work even when small: "127 founders have listed their product" is meaningful to the 128th founder considering it.

Beta user quotes count. Early access feedback counts. A Twitter / X post from someone who tried it counts. Any third-party voice saying something positive about your product is social proof. Gather and display it from the first day you launch.

Build your presence where founders discover tools

Social proof compounds with distribution. The more places your product appears — directories, community threads, review platforms — the more credibility signals you accumulate. Launchstag gives you a permanent indexed listing and a community of founders who may provide the first independent mentions of your product. Start there, then spread.
